Hola Curved-Air passerby’s, fans, brothers & sisters, haters, and stumblers. I just wanted to touch base with you all. It’s not been very busy on the CA shares the last week. There’s been some considerable contributions and great conversations but i’ve been lagging on the shares! Let me explain…
Monthly Archives: July 2006
So this isn’t the first time this has happened but people taking my shares and then reposting them on their site with no proper linkage seems like poor blog ethics to me. I will just point out the most recent episode: Cheese Onion Jazz …oh and there’s 3 others from my site over there! EDIT: the admin contacted me to tell me i’m in the links section, which i can’t seem to find. I still feel that the records should be “posted over at” or i should have been asked. I will now continue my bantor just to stimulate some conversation.
Site visitor and now CA contributor Klangbild has come through with a heeping of great shares. If you’re a P0le Records fan this is the goldmine. I’ve had a huge list of request over the last few months and have promised to get some up. This is the short list but here’s a start…enjoy:
Dzyan’s “s/t” debut release. Here’s some words from the ProgArchives for those who are unfamiliar with them: Formed in 1972, this ethnic/kraut jazz quintet (Jochen Leuschner, Reinhard Karwatky, Gerd Bock-Ehrmann, Deiter Kramer, and Ludwig Braun) released their self titled album the same year in a relative discretion. This album made an exploration in long / space rock improvisations relied on jazz grooves and weird electro –acoustic sounds. The “ethnicâ€, mystical elements are obvious notably due to the acoustic percussions rhythm sections. Compositions are mainly instrumental and improvised, brightly showing the technical capacities of the musicians. ENJOY!
Exmagma’s 1973 release”Goldball”. Here’s some words from the ProgArchives for those who are unfamiliar with them: With a sound somewhere between the SOFT MACHINE and, say, AMON DÜÜL II, EXMAGMA provide us with a slightly psychedelic form of Jazzrock, including hints of Krautrock. Their experimental compositions, ranging from lengthy improvised pieces to short, quirky tracks, leave me with no doubt to conclude that this is indeed a progressive rock band, worthy of inclusion. (Many thanks to Philippe Blache for introducing this fine band to me.)ENJOY!
Mwandishi’s aka Herbie Hancock’s amazing 1970 release with all the usual suspects and their 70’s aliases. This record blew my mind when I first heard and still continues to be one of my favorites by Hancock from this period. Its was re-released in 2001 and then went out of print again. These songs can be found on compilations (yuk!), but you can additionally score the cd here: Amazon used for pretty cheap.
I highly suggest folks who don’t know about this one to treat themselves to a listen.ENJOY!
Terry Riley’s desperately hard to find “Persian Surgery Dervishes” which combines 2 recordings from Los Angeles 1971 & Paris 1972. Words: the music is organised in the typical minimalism vein but it is rich of emotions, an element not always present in such intensity in the music of any style. the emotion is strictly related to the high degree of improvisation we can find in riley’s music that mixes the traditions of the western and indian classic music. persian surgery dervishes is also one of the milestones of the psychedelic era of the seventies. source of inspiration, together with “rainbow in a curved air”, of many of the pop groups of the german and english scene (popul vuh, amon duul ii, curved air,..). another good reason to be grateful to riley for this recordings.ENJOY!
Jade Warrior’s “s/t” debut 1971 release. Here’s some words from the ProgArchives for those who are unfamiliar with them:The first work released in 1971 “Jade Warrior”. Debut work that promptly takes element of world music. A cold, dazzling atmosphere is wonderful. The style is extremely unique. Music keeps various emotions secret, and sparks the imagination. It is a work where a mutable feeling and the resignation drift. Four stars. Excellent addition to any prog music collection.ENJOY!
So that its for the request for now. Feel free to email me your request and remember its good to post your request directly in the comments here. Some folks have had some luck that way too~!
